WJF WinterBlitz DVD

I'm currently working on the WJF WinterBlitz DVD but you can see a short trailer for it here:

The first thing you'll notice is that we redesigned the stage and lights to have a black abyss backdrop. I've always felt juggling looked best against a black backdrop so that only the competitor and the objects being juggled are visible. So we darkened the whole room, positioned the stage far enough from the back wall so that, with strategically positioned lighting, it wouldn't be visible. And this also made it an ideal condition to juggle in. It also helped to not have any sponsors for this event who would want banners behind the competitors. So this may be the only time we can use this kind of design, but maybe we'll get more creative for WJF 6 to make sponsors

WJF 6 Updates

We are still working on the dates and location for WJF 6. Currently Florida, Illinois, and Nevada (Las Vegas and other cities) are being considered. It's possible we'll make it to all these states within the next few years. Right now we're trying to figure out the best order in which to do them. We're also re-evaluating all the move values from WJF 5. 994 moves are being scored by ten qualified jugglers and the move database is being refined and developed. We hope to have a working database for WJF 6 by the time the dates and location are announced, hopefully sometime in February. In the meantime, I'd like to remind all those who are planning on competing that we will be requiring NEW music this year. Music never used before at a WJF event. You will also be required to purchase this music and transfer the license to the WJF for use in broadcast and DVD. We will be posting a list of all music used before in WJF competitions and where the music was purchased to make this process easier for you. Please also let us know what track you're planning on purchasing before purchasing it. Three minute tracks can usually be purchased for around $25.00 each. We won't be requiring uniforms as we have in the past, but please look at the uniforms that were used at WJF 5 and try to find something similar. If you choose to put your last name on the back, please have it professionally done and not spelled out in duct tape :)

School Reports

In the last email update I suggested that some of you give reports and/or presentations on juggling in your schools and to teach your classmates how to juggle. Well people are actually doing it so I'm going to set up a page on the WJF website to showcase all the presentations and jugglers that are created as a result of those presentations. If you need some questions answered, please feel free to email them to us and we'll answer your questions to help you on your assignment. If you give a report on juggling to your school or class and would like it posted on the WJF website, email us a written transcript of your report as well as pictures and videos of those you teach to juggle. Set up a youtube channel for the videos and send us the links. We'd like to keep a running total of all the jugglers that are created as a result of these efforts. Let's see how many people we can turn into jugglers!

Jason Garfield Workshop in NYC!

A combination of the lessons taught in "Jason Garfield's Theory and Practice of Juggling" and "Etudes for Juggling: The Next Three Years of Your Life" will be taught in this 4 hour workshop to be held in the New York area in March. Practice structure, performance preparedness, backcrosses, body throws, overhead throws, shoulder throws, 180s, 360s, siteswaps, ring stuff I learned while practicing with Pavel (Who's name at first glance looks a little like Paypal), and more will all be covered. Personal one on one attention to each student and their specific needs based on their skill level will be given at every stage of each skill set instruction.
